Shut Up and Sing private screening review

"In the land of the free... Can you dare to be brave?"

That is the question asked in the trailer of the new Dixie Chicks documentary, Shut Up and Sing. The film follows the girls from 2003 when Natalie Maines made "the statement", through to this past July when they returned to London, England (the scene of the crime) to kick off this years world tour.

One of the hardest parts to watch though, was the footage from July 6th, 2003. This was the night that the Dixie Chicks performed a concert in Dallas, Texas. It was also the night that a man had threatened to shoot Natalie while she was on stage. Obviously, the law enforcement officials were able to prevent anything from happening, but it was still very hard to see the nervousness and fear from the girls and everyone backstage.

There is a new song, that the Dixie Chicks performed in concert called The Neighbour. They played it in the movie as well. If anyone knows where to get this song let me know! I can't find it on any album that HMV can order in. Maybe itunes???

On a lighter note, I watched this on Monday night. After my Spark meeting, I went to the late showing at the Cap 4 downtown. It was supposed to start at 9:10, so I showed up a little before nine. I was the ONLY ONE THERE!!! I bought my ticket, and joked with the employees that I felt like Roger Ebert at an advance screening. I got free popcorn, because they were cleaning up, and it wasn't fresh. She told me that if I didn't take a bag, she'd just be throwing it out. It still tasted good to me! It was awesome to be the only person in the whole theater. The cashier told me that people usually pay $500 for a private screening, and I was getting it for a bargain!

They started the movie 10 minutes early, and I had to laugh out loud at the little message they always show before the movie starts. You know the one, the "please turn off your cell phone, and be courtious to the other movie goers" I thought, "If I want to answer my phone tonight, I will!".

Cheeky Monkey

Dirty little Monkey! That's not what the internet is for!
(Photo courtesy Jared formerly of Telus)

It's been a long week here at monkey central.

I am this close to being done my shopping. There is so much that I'd like to buy for everyone. That's my problem. I'm a giver. I have always been one. Even if I can't afford it, or I shouldn't do it, I always do. I spend and spend. I bought The Husband 5 things because I saw them, and I knew that he would like them. I spent way too much money on him. I went over our limit, and now I am scrambling to pay for other important stuff, like my Starbucks addiction.

(Christmas Blend only comes once a year!)

I have been Santa to everyone, and now I'm almost done being Martha too. I've just got a little bit of baking to finish up, and then that's it.
No more holiday spirit for me! :-)

I'm not going home for Christmas this year. It's kinda bad, but I don't really feel like it's Christmas. We didn't decorate the house at all. There is no tree, no stockings, no lights, candles, cards, anything! I get my fill of "Christmas" at the mall. And even there, we aren't playing Christmas music in the store, nor has there been any "decoration" put out in the store either. Why do I have no holiday cheer?

I'm not a grinch or anything... I mean, I would love to go and see the Enchanted Forest, and go to friends houses and be merry, and such, but it hasn't happened. Frankly, unless we get invited to go out, it probably won't happen either.

Meh, I worry too much.

On a completely unrelated note, (and Terri, if you are reading this you have to help me!!!), I am stuck on Weffriddles Set two level 35. The level is INSANE! I have been here for a week. I look at it, try an answer, go to an error page, get mad, leave the computer, come back, try again, and get completely frustrated. The answer is probably right in front of me, but I'm stumped. I've gotten this far without help. (Travis tried to help a couple of times, but I've used google or wikipedia for the rest of them. Where are you right now Terri? Have you passed this one? Please, for the love of all that is holy, someone out there give me some help on this darn thing!

Sometimes People Just Need Extra Reassurance.

You're not alone
together we stand
i'll be by your side
you know i'll take your hand
when it gets cold
and it feels like the end
theres no place to go you know i wont give in
no i wont give in.

Keep holding on
'cause you know we'll make it through, we'll make it through
just stay strong
cause you know i'm here for you, i'm here for you
theres nothing you can say, nothing you can do
theres no other way when it comes to the truth
so keep holding on
cause you know we'll make it through, we'll make it through.

So far away i wish you were here
before it's too late this could all disapear
before the doors close, this comes to an end
but with you by my side i will fight and defend i'll fight and defend yeah yeah.

Hear me when i say, when i say
i believe nothings gonna change, nothings gonna change destiny
what ever is ment to be
will work out perfectly yeah yeah yeah yeah

lalalalalalala...

C - C - C - Cinnamon Lips by Ok Go

C-C-C-Cinnamon lips and candy kisses, on my tongue. Fun!
B-B-B-Buttery eyes, if only cries could come from those eyes. Oh!
Have you landed yet and, if so, would you let me know?
I'm tired of looking up into those starry eyes.
Does it rain where you are? Does it snow?
And, if so, remind me not to go there, the weather affects my knee.
I've never felt this way before.
C-C-C-Cinnamon Lips, go powder your cheeks and meet your
new beau, oh...
C-C-C-Counting sheep, if only sheep could put me to sleep, oh...
I've never felt this way before.
Some day (one day) you'll miss me.
Mundane Sundays, when I'm gone.
One day (some day) you'll miss me.
One day when I'm gone (adieu and so long)
One day when I'm gone!
No, no, no, no, no, no, no.
Have you landed yet and, if so, would you let me know?
I've never felt this way before.

It's 1:42 am and I'm ready to crash.

To Everyone I've ignored lately, I'm sorry.

To Everyone I've offended lately, I'm sorry.

I'll be better soon.

This is slowly turning into a music review website (and that's a bad thing...?)

Tonight during the late-a-thon at the Hemvee (as I like to call it), I asked about the band Death From Above 1979. I was in for a mind-blowing experience!

It's basically two guys, a drummer and a bass player, and they can make the most wicked awesome sounds that you've ever heard! It's definitely a hard rock sound and is best played LOUD.

The bad news is that the band broke up. They split and decided to go on their own separate adventures. :-(

I have to own at least the Remix album. Fantastic stuff here people. I know good music. That's it! I'll become the Martha Stewart of Music. Well...maybe not Martha. I want to drink and swear and get tattoos. I don't know if the Marthinator puts up with people like that :-)

Long Days, Long nights.

Today was my first official "night shift" at the Music Store. It was very productive to work and not have to stop doing your tasks and help someone find something, or to ring items in at the cash desk. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy helping people. I am able to make them smile most of the time. If you have other tasks that need to be done, the people always come first, and the lists of tasks tend to grow and grow...

Plus, you can listen to any off-colour music you may want to and watch a crazy, zany comedian in his #1 hit comedy dvd Vicious Circle, which uses words like "F**K Tards" and other phrases which may be offensive to the general public.

I have these shifts all week. Late nights... Anyone up for an inappropriate breakfast? Or Drinks??

On Sunday, the two locations of the Music Store got together for our Christmas Supper. We ate at Aroma in the Radisson Hotel. The food was really fun. It's hard to explain. The food is classy, the names of the entrees aren't. For example, I ordered chicken stuffed with some exotic cheeses and some kind of bitter greens that really blended with the cheeses nicely. The name of the dish... The Padded Bra.

Really.

Grade school humor. At a classy restaurant.

After supper we all went back to my Boss' for some refreshments and free stuff. I walked out of there with 4 new dvd's, a Martin Scorsese Box Set, and 15 cd's. It was crazy the amount of product that we got! Merry Christmas! I stayed and rocked out with the boys until after two. There was some sitar playing, and some crazy techno music sampling, and margaritas. A perfect evening was had by all. (I even got to confess a secret to Enver in the car on a Beer run... it was a goofy night!)

I have a new favorite song. Local group Chimpan-a to Chimpan-z has their first disc called Designs. The song is called Aurora Boreaopus. I love, love, love this song! Go to their MySpace page to hear the song, and then go and buy the record today!

Aurora Boreaopus

The rain falls.
We crash into the waves.
This glorious night explodes into glass.
The way we were...
well we can't avoid this crash.
We watch the stars.
A gentle dance that steals your breath.
A thief in the night.
We blame it all on
but we can't wait for morning
so we send a call for light.
A long way down.
The way we were
well we can't.
It's a long way down.

This is one of the reasons I had to leave Telus

Illiteracy:

(This is an actual cut and paste of a letter that a co-worker sent to a high-ranking senior member of the team) Emphasis is mine to protect the innocent and prevent some form of Dooce-age...I did not change the spellings, the punctuation, or the grammar.

So what do you think?!?!

How cool is this...

I check my emails, and I have a new comment on a post. I open up the comment, and it's for this post about the book, Goodbye Lemon.

The comment was from Adam Davies, the book's author! Adam, in case you are checking out my blog on a regular basis, I should tell you that I LOVED this book! I hope that you are working on another story, because so far, you're batting 1000!

Thanks for the comment. I'll give you a rave review any day!
